The last 5 months

It would be an understatement to say that my life has changed. It has and continues to unfold in a beautiful organic way. In June I was home for what turned out to be the the final project of with my employer since 2019. I reflect on all that I learned, and the harm that was caused. I also reflect on how the non profit industrial complex, if not lead by people who believe in liberation work use their mission statements as a pass for the problematic systems that sustain it. There have been moments of joy and discovery and grief in this process of transition. Here’s a quick list of the things:

  • what: I have implemented fasting into my weekly practice | why: recognizing my addictions, and minimizing toxins in my body

  • what: I have stopped drinking alcohol | why: to focus on intentional relations, and practice presence with myself and shared company

  • what: I had the birth control implant removed from my arm | why: to be in my body. fully. and let creation take is course

  • what: I started my first full time position with Movement Research as the Media and Communications Manager | why: I was wrongfully terminated from my last position

  • what: collaborations in Kapwa for Kapwa by Kapwa with Michaela | why: we want to be leaders in this work, we can be leaders. a clothing brand can also be a community and can have a message. intention.

  • what: I began healing sessions with a friend and hope to learn how to become a practitioner myself | why: to continue my healing journey

  • what: I’ve been in process with collaborators I trust and adore, the show is open you can learn more about it here Forgetting Tree at Z Space | why: because I have dope af friends/close collaborators who believe in liberation for all

I feel incredibly blessed and called to this work. This, as in decolonization work. I am honored to be in alignment with Spirit.

I’m equally inspired to continue to expand what I discovered in my solo explorations.

It looks like we’re sold out for in the in person run. There is a virtual screening of the film Nov 12. More details here

“Forgetting Tree is a cultural memory project conducted by Jes DeVille, co-produced by Queer Cat Productions and Openhaus Athletics. Taking the shape of an immersive dance-theater experience, Forgetting Tree invites audiences on an enchanted night walk through a curated sensory garden installation. Projections, installations, and an original soundscape will transform the landscape of the Z Space lobby in San Francisco on November 3-5, 2023. Visitors will journey through our garden’s bioluminescence to unearth the story of the Tree of Forgetfulness, reversing an age-old ritual separating humanity from our memory of location and culture through exploitation of land, labor, and living systems. This experience explores universal themes of climate shift, liberation ecology, and traditional ecological knowledge through the lens of communities on the fringe.”
